Global Geopolitics: The energy transition is often seen as a geo-strategic move by industrialized nations to diminish OPEC's control over the global energy system. Climate risk securitization has accelerated climate action, but it has also stirred pessimism. While low-carbon development benefits those in control of climate risk mitigation methods, its true purpose should be to benefit people and the planet, not just profit.
A Just Transition: Africa's decarbonization targets demand a 3% annual increase in renewable energy until 2030. However, the cost of transitioning away from existing energy sources is a significant challenge. Poor African nations are reluctant to accept the historical responsibility of affluent nations for climate change. Repaying the global North's climate debt will remain a central issue in climate politics.
